The use of special pouches or containers for healing on both the practical level and the spiritual/energetic levels have long been used cross culturally for as long as the concept of healing and medicine have existed in human history.

Sometimes in the form of talismans or amulets, a personal medicine bag, historically, might contain sacred objects that symbolize personal well-being and tribal identity. Traditionally, medicine bags are worn under the clothing. Their contents are private, secret, and are not intended for display.

Cultural appropriation is a serious, complex, and, oftentimes, a sensitive subject.   As such, for this class, we are not drawing from any one particular culture, but rather we are drawing from a cross cultural collective typically shared by many or most known tribal lineages as well as some adaptations for the modern individual.  The medicine pouch we will be making will be focused on utilitarian function as physical medicines for 1st aid or other immediate purposes as well as serving the essential purpose of facilitating the use of and connecting the bearer with the unseen and intangible aspects of healing.

We generally choose to use hand tanned buckskin leather from wild or certified organic animals to honor and include the Animal Medicine that plays a vitally important symbiosis with Plant Medicine.  The leather used for this is made the traditional way and is truly and intensive labor of love and way of full circle living.  Vegan options will also be available for our vegan and vegetarian friends.

Class is held outdoors in our beautiful local wilderness under the shade of trees and next to a gentle flowing stream.  A plant walk consisting of a short and mild 1.5 mile stroll to connect with the Plant people will be included.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Craft your own medicine pouch from hand tanned organic buckskin leather (vegan option available)
  • Learn to identify wild, native plants medicinals
  • Utilize powerful cross cultural Shamanic practices to connect with the plant people
  • Apply the fundamentals of Plant medicine to formulate your own personalized medicine pouch
